Title of position: Lead Designer, Piping

Position type: Full Time

Pay range: $44 - $60 (hourly)*

Location: Westminster, Colorado

General Characteristics

Responsible for 3D piping design on large-scale industrial projects such as Cryogenic Gas Processing, Amine Treating, Refrigeration, Condensate Stabilization, and Oil Treating. Interfaces with multiple discipline leads, manages design efforts across concurrent projects, and ensures drawings and deliverables meet company standards, schedules, and budgets. Mentors junior designers and performs back checks to maintain quality and accuracy. Responsible for successful project outcomes.

Required Skills
  • Ability to independently lead large projects or multiple smaller ones, coordinating with supervisors, engineers, and other designers. Mentors and trains less experienced drafters/designers.
  • Estimate and track schedules, manage budgets, and assign work to meet project deadlines. Monitor and report on project progress. Complete projects accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with other design disciplines for coordinated execution across all engineering aspects.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex problems; contribute to standards, templates, and team design practices. Basic knowledge of V-Lisp and CUI is recommended.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and CADWorx for creating 3D models/drawings, adhering to company standards.
  • Understand end-to-end project workflows, provide technical and administrative support, review work thoroughly, and ensure consistent quality.
  • Interface professionally with internal teams and external clients to deliver accurate, timely documentation that meets project requirements.
  • Manage multiple large-scale, deadline-driven projects with competing priorities, maintaining organization, confidentiality, and operational efficiency.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of industry piping design codes and standards (ASME B31.3, B31.1, B16 series), material specifications, and their practical applications.
  • Experience with detailed field walkdowns, redlines, as-built drawings, and on-site coordination to support construction accuracy and design integrity.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills to guide design teams and interface with project managers, engineers, and clients.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive piping design experience in industrial or process environments.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and dependable; able to work independently and within a team.
  • Capable of interpreting engineering specifications and applying relevant codes, standards, and material knowledge.
  • Coursework in drafting/CAD, community college studies, or supervisory/managerial training is a plus.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and software tools, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, CADWorx P&ID, CADWorx Plant, Bluebeam Revu, Navisworks, and other relevant platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities; capable of leading and overseeing junior designers and drafters.
