Job description

Réalta Technologies are seeking an experienced Lead DeltaV Automation Engineer to support a major pharmaceutical client in Puerto Rico on a significant manufacturing expansion project.

This position will play a key leadership role in the automation delivery of a new buffer preparation expansion, incorporating approximately 2,000 I/O across 10 new process vessels, CIP systems and associated utility equipment. The successful candidate will lead the DeltaV scope from design through implementation while acting as the primary technical interface between the project team, site operations, global automation stakeholders, system integrators and equipment vendors.

This is a highly visible, site-based position requiring a strong technical DeltaV background combined with proven project leadership and stakeholder management experience.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the automation scope for a major DeltaV expansion project from design through commissioning and handover.
  • Manage the integration of approximately 2,000 new I/O into an existing DeltaV Version 15 control system.
  • Oversee the automation implementation for new process vessels, CIP systems and supporting utility equipment.
  • Assess and support potential integration of an existing smaller DeltaV system into one of the site's larger DeltaV platforms.
  • Coordinate activities between project engineering teams, site operations, global automation teams, system integrators and equipment vendors.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring automation deliverables are completed safely, on schedule and to the required quality standards.
  • Review and approve automation design documentation including Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Control Module Design, Software Design Specifications and test documentation.
  • Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, qualification and start-up activities.
  • Manage automation project risks, technical issues and change controls while driving timely resolution.
  • Ensure all automation work complies with GMP, GAMP 5 and site engineering standards.
  • Provide regular project updates to key stakeholders and participate in project planning and governance meetings.
  • Support knowledge transfer and handover to site automation and operations teams.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Chemical or Process Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years' automation engineering experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience with Emerson DeltaV, ideally including DeltaV Version 15.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale DeltaV capital projects from design through commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of process automation including batch processes, buffer preparation, CIP systems and process utilities.
  • Experience delivering automation projects involving large I/O counts and complex system integrations.
  • Previous experience assessing or executing DeltaV system migrations or system consolidations would be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience coordinating global teams, site personnel, vendors and system integrators.
  • Strong understanding of GMP, GAMP 5, ISA-88 and pharmaceutical validation requirements.
  • Excellent communication, planning and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Puerto Rico for the duration of the project.
