The Wall Street Journal, part of Dow Jones, seeks a Lead Data Scientist for Newsroom Analytics in New York. You will own the data science roadmap and build models that inform how readers discover, engage with, and return to WSJ journalism.

You will partner with editorial, audience, and product teams, craft predictive and explanatory models, and mentor a growing data team to elevate analytical rigor across newsroom workflows.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data science, analytics, or applied ML in media or subscription environments.
• Experience owning end-to-end models in lean teams with orchestration tools.
• Strong Python data science, feature engineering, and production-quality code.
• Advanced SQL and large-scale data warehouses (Snowflake/BigQuery) experience.
• Experience applying causal inference and statistical methods to observational data.
• Ability to translate quantitative findings into actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience building models that influence content strategy, audience development, or customer retention.

Responsabilités

• Partner with digital strategy, coverage and product teams to identify high-impact analytical opportunities.
• Design and build predictive and explanatory models end-to-end, balancing complexity and interpretability.
• Translate findings into clear recommendations and drive adoption with stakeholders.
• Own core newsroom metrics and measurement systems, ensuring accuracy and documentation.
• Apply rigorous statistical thinking and causal inference to measure editorial/audience impact.
• Mentor junior data team members and raise the team's technical capability.
