Motion Recruitment is seeking a Lead Data Platform Engineer to design and scale data architectures for complex scientific datasets, transforming them into trusted business assets. You will own end-to-end data pipelines, build reusable components, and guide a small team across requirements, delivery, and quality.

This fully remote role targets Maine residents, offers $140,000–$200,000 annually, and provides mentorship, high visibility, and opportunities to work on AI-driven data initiatives.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform development.
• Expert-level proficiency with Python and SQL.
• Proven success designing and deploying scalable data processing solutions.
• Experience leading technical initiatives from requirements gathering through production delivery.
• Strong background building ETL/ELT workflows and data integration frameworks.
• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects and stakeholders.
• Experience implementing testing strategies, code quality standards, and development best practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working within Agile software development environments.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop end-to-end data solutions for scientific and research-focused environments.
• Design reusable data models, ingestion frameworks, and transformation processes.
• Build and optimize large-scale data pipelines that support critical business operations.
• Create robust parsing and schema-generation capabilities for diverse data formats.
• Develop reusable engineering components and shared Python libraries.
• Collaborate with solution architects and product teams to translate business goals into technical designs.
• Ensure reliable, high-quality data delivery through automated testing and validation practices.
• Build analytical applications, dashboards, and visualization tools that support customer needs.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency, scalability, and code quality.
• Lead technical discussions and contribute to architectural decision-making.
• Coach junior engineers and provide hands-on technical guidance.
• Partner directly with stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes and measurable value.
