Job summary

Capgemini in Smithfield, RI is seeking a senior data migration engineer to lead the assessment and design of migrating Sybase environments to SQL Server or PostgreSQL. You will define migration strategies, architectures, and roadmaps, and drive execution across data validation, ETL remediation, and cutover planning.

This role requires strong SQL, ETL, Java data pipelines, and experience with CI/CD tools. You will partner with business and tech stakeholders in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Must have hands-on Sybase experience including DB structures, stored procedures, schemas, data models, and dependency analysis.
• Proven experience leading and executing database migrations, especially Sybase to SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
• Strong ETL and data integration expertise (Informatica, data lineage, migration planning).
• Experience analyzing legacy apps, DBs, interfaces, and data flows to define migration scope, effort, risks, and approach.
• Proficiency with Sybase, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, advanced SQL, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Lead current-state assessment and discovery activities for the Sybase environment.
• Analyze databases, ETL processes, applications, integrations, and data dependencies.
• Define migration strategy, target-state architecture, and implementation roadmap.
• Drive execution of migration activities, including database conversion, ETL remediation, data validation, and cutover planning.
• Provide technical leadership across assessment, design, migration, and post-migration stabilization phases.
