Job summary

Verisma seeks an experienced Lead Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain Azure-based data infrastructure supporting BI, analytics, and healthcare interoperability. You will integrate with EHR systems using FHIR/C-CDA and ensure HIPAA/HITRUST compliance.

You will mentor engineers, lead data architecture discussions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions and secure data pipelines across development to production environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, or related field.
8+ years of experience in data engineering, database development, or related roles.
Expert-level proficiency in T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
Expert-level proficiency in Python.
Experience building REST APIs and background workers in Python (FastAPI/Flask).
Understanding of event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing.
Strong experience with Azure data services (Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse, Blob Storage).
Hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
Knowledge of Power BI development skills including DAX, data modeling, and performance optimization.
Solid understanding of database design principles, normalization, and data modeling.
Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD practices.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
HIPAA/HITRUST compliance knowledge and healthcare data experience.
Travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

Design and implement scalable data architectures on Azure for BI and analytics.
Build and maintain data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Synapse.
Contribute to database designs across Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, CosmosDB.
Optimize data storage across Azure Blob Storage and Data Lake.
Design data models and structures for analytics and reporting.
Develop and maintain stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views.
Implement database DevOps, including schema versioning and deployment automation.
Perform database performance tuning and indexing strategies.
Ensure data integrity, security, and HIPAA/HITRUST compliance for PHI data.
Manage database lifecycle across environments using RedGate Flyway.
Design and implement ETL/ELT processes from multiple sources.
Build event-driven processing with Azure Service Bus and Event Grid.
Develop internal data APIs using Python (FastAPI/Flask) on Azure.
Create data transformation logic and orchestration workflows.
Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance across the platform.
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into solutions.
Provide mentorship and contribute to best practices and architecture reviews.
Participate in on-call rotation and support production incidents.
