Job summary

ISO New England is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain enterprise data warehouses, data marts, and BI data systems that support strategic decisions. You will own data architecture, ensure reliability, and mentor the data engineering team.

The role includes a 24/7 on-call rotation, a hybrid work model (3 days onsite), and a competitive compensation package with bonus and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience in data engineering, BI, or analytics roles.
  • 5 years of hands-on SQL and Python, building scalable data pipelines.
  • 5 years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS preferred: S3, Lambda, Athena, Aurora, Glue, Redshift).
  • Strong expertise in relational data modeling, database design, and performance optimization (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers, fostering best practices and code quality.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Ability to influence architectural decisions and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, analytics, and business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own Data Architecture & Solution Delivery
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable data platforms, including data warehouses, data marts, and ETL/ELT pipelines.

  • Partner with business and IT stakeholders to align data architecture with organizational goals.
  • Drive integration of data systems and ensure accessibility and usability of enterprise data.
  • Advance Innovation & Technical Leadership
  • Evaluate and adopt new tools, frameworks, and emerging technologies; mentor the team.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support analytics in production.

In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain the enterprise data warehouse, data marts, and BI data systems that support business decision-making and strategic initiatives. How you will make an Impact
  • Own Data Architecture & Solution Delivery

Lead the design and implementation of scalable data platforms, including data warehouses, data marts, and ETL/ELT pipelines. Establish standards and best practices for data modeling, transformation, and system design.

What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • 8 years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or analytics roles
  • 5 years of hands-on experience with SQL and Python, building and maintaining scalable data pipelines
  • 5 years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS preferred: S3, Lambda, Athena, Aurora, Glue, Redshift)
  • Strong expertise in relational data modeling, database design, and performance optimization (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers, fostering best practices, code quality, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions
  • Ability to influence architectural decisions and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, analytics, and business teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Airflow or Dagster, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale data architectures and data platforms
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and DevOps best practices
  • Experience with data governance, data quality frameworks, and observability tools

The expected salary range for a Lead Data Engineer is $150,000 - $170,000 per year. We will also consider a Mid to Senior level Data Engineer. The pay range for the Mid to Senior level is $110,000 - $150,000 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental and vision), flexible spending and health savings accounts, a 401(k) plan with generous employer contributions and a student debt benefit, life and AD&D insurance, disability insurance, critical illness and hospital indemnity benefits, paid time off, paid leave, a wellness program, an employee assistance program and other great company perks.

This is a U.S. based role. If the successful candidate resides outside of the U.S., relocation will be required.
