Job summary

Next Level Technician seeks a Lead Data Center Technician for Manassas, VA, and the Greater Northern Virginia area. You will lead field crews, supervise installations, and certify structured cabling including fiber and copper systems.

This role requires strong leadership, reading blueprints, and adherence to industry standards. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in data center infrastructure, Cat6/fiber experience, and OSHA/BICSI certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structured cabling or data center infrastructure.
  • Experience leading crews or supervising data center installation teams.
  • Experience with Cat6 and fiber optic cabling; familiarity with terminations.
  • Ability to read drawings, cutsheets, and project specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Teams).
  • BICSI, OSHA, Lift, and manufacturer certifications are a plus.
  • Must have basic hand tools and PPE.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform labor.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites within Manassas, VA as needed.
  • Work environment: active construction sites, varying temperatures, extended hours.

  • Safety & Compliance: Follow OSHA and customer safety requirements
  • Maintain safe work practices, housekeeping, data center security

Lead Data Center Technician – Structured Cabling & Fiber Installation | Manassas, VA and Greater Northern Virginia Area

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise field technicians during data center infrastructure projects
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact while overseeing safety, training, and technician development
  • Mentor, train, and develop junior technicians and installers
  • Install, terminate, test, and certify structured cabling systems including: Single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling, Cat6, Cat6A, and other copper cabling systems, Backbone and horizontal cabling infrastructure
  • Install and dress network, server, and telecommunications equipment within cabinets and racks
  • Conduct cable labeling and administration in accordance with customer and industry standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, rack elevations, Cutsheets and construction drawings
  • Ensure installations meet project, customer, and industry standards.
  • Testing & Documentation: Review copper/fiber testing, maintain documentation, and resolve issues before completion
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow OSHA and customer safety requirements
  • Maintain safe work practices, housekeeping, training, and data center security procedures
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, or data center infrastructure
  • Proven experience leading crews or supervising data center installation teams
  • Proven experience with Cat6 and fiber optic cabling installation (pre-terminated preferred), strong knowledge of fiber/copper systems and TIA/EIA/BICSI standards, and proficiency with fiber and copper testing equipment
  • Ability to read drawings, cutsheets, and project specifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Excel, and Teams
  • BICSI, OSHA, Lift, and manufacturer certifications are a plus
  • Must have basic hand tools and required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hi-vis vest, steel-toe boots)
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work on ladders/lifts, and perform bending, kneeling, climbing, and physical labor throughout the day
  • Work Environment: Comfortable working in varying temperatures, active construction sites, traveling, and extended hours as needed
  • Willingness to travel to job sites within Manassas, VA as needed
