Job summary

Switch is seeking a Principal Data Center Forensic Engineer to lead investigations into major incidents across data center regions. You will reconstruct failure timelines using telemetry, logs and physical evidence, and produce executive-ready reports.

With 12+ years in hyperscale or mission-critical environments, you will apply root cause analyses to determine underlying failure mechanisms and drive durable corrective actions across sites. Remote-friendly role, flexible work options available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering is required.
• 12+ years of experience in hyperscale or mission-critical environments.
• Deep expertise in electrical and mechanical system behavior, protection schemes, and failure mechanisms.
• Mastery of structured root cause analysis and forensic investigation techniques.
• Strong ability to interpret large operational datasets and telemetry.
• Experience investigating multi-site or fleet-wide incidents preferred.
• Experience working with OEM engineering teams or third-party forensic specialists preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead forensic investigations into major incidents across data center regions.
• Reconstruct event timelines and failure sequences using evidence, telemetry, trip data, logs.
• Produce clear, evidence-based forensic reports for executives and engineers.
• Identify recurring patterns to define systemic risk statements.
• Drive containment and corrective actions fleet-wide.
• Apply structured root cause methodologies to determine underlying failures.
• Conduct on-site inspections and component evaluations as needed.
• Validate findings against design intent and operating constraints.
• Establish and maintain investigation standards and templates.
• Collaborate with Operations, Controls, Engineering, Reliability, and OEM partners.
• Mentor engineers and strengthen investigative capability across the organization.
