Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a Principal Data Architect for the Cat Digital Helios team in Chicago, IL. This role leads data architecture initiatives across complex platforms, partnering with business and engineering partners to design scalable data models, governance frameworks, and robust ETL pipelines that enable analytics, reporting and AI-enabled insights across the enterprise.

You will mentor engineers, align data strategy with business goals, ensure compliance with data standards and security

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong experience in data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.).
• Proven demonstrated experience leading data management or software engineering projects.
• Understanding of information management concepts such as controlled vocabulary, authority control, data modeling, and schema design.
• Experience in creating conceptual and logical data models.
• Software development experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, Scala, etc. is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical leadership across the organization.
• Lead complex projects spanning multiple system components.
• Work on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with Cat Digital objectives.
• Understand and evaluate business requirements affecting Caterpillar data.
• Collaborate with data creators for planning and governance.
• Contribute to data management policies, standards, and requirements.
• Define data management strategy and drive data quality and governance improvements.
• Coordinate with business and technology partners to roadmap data needs.
