Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Senior Data Specialist to join our Chicago facility at 540 W Madison St. You will lead data design, governance, and quality efforts across complex datasets, and develop robust ETL pipelines aligned with Cat Digital objectives.

The role requires expertise in data modeling, metadata management, and AWS-based data services, with hands-on work on data cleansing, cataloging, and governance to enable trusted analytics and scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• REQS: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field and 3 years of experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer or related occupation; or bachelor’s with 5 years of experience.
• Additionally, experience with: (1) Computer Architecture and systems Software Infrastructure; (2) AWS tools such as CloudWatch logging, Lambda service, SQS, SNS, S3, DynamoDB / NoSQL, or RDS; (3) API and scripting tools such as PowerShell, SQL, JSON, Python, Apigee, or Postman; (4) VPC, CloudFormation, EC2, IAM, EBS, or ECS; (5) Data cleansing, conforming or correlation of transactional data sets.

Responsibilities

• Data design, data quality, metadata management, data governance or data architecture (25% of time).
• Develop data object pipeline specifications including detailed field-level mapping, business rules, data quality rules (25%).
• Document data models for domains to be deployed including a logical data model, candidate source lists, and canonical formats (20%).
• Design robust, scalable database and data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) solutions (15%).
• Work directly on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with Cat Digital (15%).
• Telecommuting: 1 day/week.
