Job summary

Harford County Public Schools in Edgewood, MD is seeking a Custodian II – Shift 2 at Edgewood Middle School to perform routine cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment.

The position includes supervising custodial staff, enforcing safety rules, managing supplies, and supporting special events. Starting salary is $40,524 with a maximum of $56,624 for this twelve-month role under AFSCME.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Able to read, understand, and apply written instructions, including work procedures, product labels, material safety data sheets, and equipment instruction manuals.
• Two years of custodial, mechanical trade, or related experience preferred.
• Physically able to perform the essential functions, including lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders.

Responsibilities

• Performs custodial functions to maintain housekeeping (sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, polishing, deodorizing, trash removal).
• Directs and follows up on custodial staff work; inspects performance and enforces standards.
• Maintains inventory, requisitions supplies, and ensures security of items.
• Performs basic boiler and rooftop unit maintenance and operation; handles emergency situations.
• Supervises preparation for special events and maintains operating records.
