Job summary

Crestwood Public Schools is seeking a Head Custodian at Riverside Middle School to maintain a healthy, safe environment for students and staff. This role requires leadership of custodial teams and coordination with building administration.

Responsibilities include opening and securing the building, supervising staff, cleaning and floor care, event setup, and adherence to safety procedures and district policies.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a High School Diploma.
  • Have previous custodial experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, coordinates, and participates in activities of custodians engaged in cleaning of premises, furniture, and equipment, minor routine maintenance and repair activities, using hand tools, and tending to heating and cooling units and all other custodial-related tasks.
  • Takes primary responsibility for opening and/or securing the building, including weekends, to protect against vandalism and theft.
  • Directs, coordinates, supervises, schedules, and inspects the work of all subordinate personnel.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.
  • Assist with setting up facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
  • Distribute freight and school materials. Handle teacher and staff requests for stored teaching supplies and assistance.
  • Maintain building grounds by cleaning up debris (e.g., glass, plastic bottles, cans, etc.), entrances, and courtyards; trim shrubs; and remove snow.
  • Check the rooftop daily for debris, damage, and clogged drains.
  • Check paper supplies in all copy rooms and restock as needed.
  • Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools: buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
  • Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
  • Activate and deactivate building alarms, and respond to alarm calls during and after regular work hours.
  • Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure buildings when facilities are not used. Check for unlocked doors and windows, report unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as needed.
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and clean blinds.
  • Attend to emergencies when necessary.
  • Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
  • Assist with inventory control and security.
  • Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
  • Support and enforce all policies, such as MIOSHA, etc.
  • Enforce and support policies established by the Maintenance/Custodial Supervisor.
  • Ability to read and follow directions. Positive interpersonal skills are needed to enhance the team spirit of cooperation. Some skill in operating and maintaining equipment
  • Act as a point of contact for visitors, community, vendors, contractors, staff, teachers, parents, building use participants, maintenance technicians, and district employees related to custodial services, duties, and building use at the assigned school. Coordinate and assist with set-up, breakdown, and clean-up of school and community use (per contract) activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor.
