Job Summary

The position will have one of two different work schedules: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm or Thursday-Monday 8:00am-4:30pm.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Custodial Operations and the general supervision of the Associate Director for Facilities Operations, the Lead Custodian mentors, guides, trains, and instructs custodians in proper equipment use, supply materials, chemicals, and custodial techniques. The incumbent performs duties in assigned work areas, including residential facilities and administrative offices such as Classics residence halls, Campus Village, trash/recycling rooms, Spartan Village, and International House. They are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and appearance, assisting custodians, and using safe, approved methods as per University Housing Services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate Residential Facilities Trash and Recycling Needs
  2. Provide daily custodial service during summer for quick turnaround
  3. Maintain appearance and cleanliness of residential facilities
  4. Operate motorized equipment
  5. Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning bathrooms
  6. Train staff on equipment, supplies, and custodial practices
  7. Coordinate recycling/trash program
  8. Assign, review, and inspect staff work
  9. Maintain employee records and assist in evaluations
  10. Plan and schedule personnel and work assignments
  11. Use computers for communication, research, documentation, and reporting
  12. Mentor custodians on responsibilities and techniques
  13. Serve as on-call for emergencies

Required Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of custodial experience with leadership responsibilities
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Participation in OSHA physicals and examinations
License

A valid driver's license is required. Out-of-state candidates must obtain a California driver's license within 10 days of hire and complete Defensive Driver Training.

  • 3+ years of custodial or lead custodial experience

Compensation

Classification: Lead Custodian

Hiring Range: $3,690 - $4,276/month

Salary Range: $3,690 - $6,062/month

Benefits include a comprehensive package worth 30-35% of base salary.
