VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Lead Crew Member: Pumping and Transmission
Starting Salary: $ $40,851

Position Overview: As a Lead Crew Member, you will be the key person responsible for guiding a team of laborers in street sanitation, maintenance, and refuse collection. Your duties will involve ensuring smooth operation of water and sewer lines, as well as maintaining cleanliness in streets and public areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Crew Leader in directing daily operations and ensuring the safety of work areas.
• Prepare reports and logs detailing daily activities.
• Oversee or participate in the cleaning and preventive maintenance of equipment.
• Operate or supervise the operation of various trucks and heavy equipment.
• Perform additional duties specific to Water and Sewer assignments, including:
  • Checking pumping stations, sewer mains, lines, and manholes.
  • Setting up water main and sewer taps.
  • Conducting scheduled maintenance and necessary repairs.
  • Assisting residents with water and sewer issues.
  • Operating water and dump trucks for tasks such as snow removal.
  • Installing and repairing fire hydrants, manholes, and water meter assemblies.
  • Removing dead animals from streets.
  • Providing traffic control and setting up traffic configurations.
  • Confined space entry.
  • Collaborating with the Clean Community Commission on projects.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) years of experience in public works maintenance and repair, or equivalent education/experience.

Special Requirements:

• Traffic Control and Flagging license from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Transportation.
• Pesticide Applicator License.
• Certified Aerial Lift Operator.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License issued by the state required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Familiarity with the methods, procedures, and policies of the City of Fredericksburg.
• Understanding of automotive and equipment maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of relevant laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Ability to compile, record, and transcribe data and information.
• Capability to guide and assist others in applying procedures and standards.
• Proficiency in operating and maneuvering equipment and tools.
• Competence in utilizing descriptive data and information, such as blueprints and diagrams.
• Skilled in basic arithmetic and data interpretation.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and exercise judgment in routine tasks.
