Starting Salary: $40,851

Position Overview: As a Lead Crew Member, you will guide a team in street sanitation, maintenance, and refuse collection, ensuring the smooth operation of water and sewer lines and maintaining street cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Crew Leader in directing daily operations and ensuring safety
• Prepare reports and logs of daily activities
• Oversee or participate in equipment cleaning and maintenance
• Operate or supervise trucks and heavy equipment
• Perform specific Water and Sewer tasks such as checking pumping stations, sewer mains, setting up water and sewer taps, conducting maintenance and repairs, assisting residents, operating trucks, installing and repairing fire hydrants and water meters, removing dead animals, providing traffic control, confined space entry, and collaborating with the Clean Community Commission

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED
• Three years of experience in public works maintenance and repair, or equivalent education/experience

Special Requirements:

• Traffic Control and Flagging license from Virginia Department of Transportation
• Pesticide Applicator License
• Certified Aerial Lift Operator
• CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of City of Fredericksburg methods and policies
• Understanding of vehicle and equipment maintenance
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
• Ability to record and transcribe data
• Guidance skills for applying procedures and standards
• Proficiency in operating equipment and tools
• Ability to interpret blueprints and diagrams
• Basic arithmetic and data interpretation skills
• Ability to follow instructions and exercise judgment
