Job summary

Sedgwick County is seeking a Senior Corrections Officer to supervise adult residents in a 24-hour corrections facility, performing lead worker duties and ensuring safety and security. Responsibilities include admission and release processing, client supervision, crisis intervention, searches, and maintaining records; duties span case management, transport to school or court, and policy compliance.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, 9 months of experience with justice-involved

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Nine (9) months experience with justice-involved youth or adult offender population preferred.
• Professional references are required to verify related work experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid US driver’s license without restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with client admissions and releases as needed.
• Supervise adult clients’ care and security; lead activities; search client property and facility areas.
• Maintain safety and security through alert observation and prompt intervention.
• Monitor client activities inside or outside the facility; emphasize security, behavior modification, and prosocial modeling.
• Administer urinalysis and breathalyzer tests; review reports to stay informed of activity.
• Escort clients to school, court, visitation, meals, and other activities; communicate with community contacts.
• Address rule violations by initiating discipline, preparing reports, assigning and supervising consequences, investigating incidents, and recognizing positive behavior with incentives.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports; manage client money and property as needed.
• Ensure medication records, handling, and distribution requirements are met.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Associate’s degree (preferred) in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or closely related field
