Job summary

Beaufort County in South Carolina seeks a Detention Center Security Officer to ensure the safety of inmates and visitors. This position works under close supervision and follows established procedures.

Responsibilities include enforcing rules, processing bookings (fingerprinting, photos, uniforms), logging inmate property, monitoring cells, transporting inmates, and supporting medical visits. HS diploma and SC CJ Academy certifications are required.

Qualifications

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training to completion of one year of college.
• Over two years and up to four years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Enforces security rules, regulations and procedures and provides services and information to inmates.
• Receives and books inmates including fingerprinting, photographing and issuing uniforms.
• Collects, inventories and logs inmate property at booking.
• Maintains routine operations and security of the jail and verifies inmates are accounted for.
• Activates inmate phone accounts and manages inmate monies.
• Completes arrest and booking reports for all inmates and those on bond.
• Places inmates in assigned jail cells and handles releases or transportation.
• Ensures cell check reports and incident reports are complete and filed.
• Arranges for escort to transport inmates to other locations.
• Provides for inmate safety and health; monitors inmate activity and meals; supports medical visits.
