Job summary

UTMB Health in Texas seeks a physician to provide professional diagnosis and treatment for inmate patients within the Correctional Managed Care program. You will render medical judgments, supervise physicians and mid-level practitioners, and ensure timely, compliant health services for the inmate population.

You will work under the Regional Physician with broad latitude for initiative and will oversee unit medical operations, including documentation, referrals, and after-hours coverage.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
• Must hold current DEA controlled substances registration.

Responsibilities

• Performs complete medical histories and physician examinations; interprets results and prescribes medications.
• Inspects and updates medical classifications; completes admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries; rounds on patients.
• Refers patients to specialists for consultations, evaluations, and treatments.
• Serves in rotation with other physicians to provide after-hours and weekend patient care.
• Directly supervises all physicians and mid level practitioners.
• Oversees and manages all operations of the unit’s medical department, ensuring compliance with standards and policies.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures for the department.
