Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (COPVs) to own the design, analysis, build, test and integration of flight composite overwrapped pressure vessels. You will lead cradle-to-grave COPV development, working with cross-functional teams to advance next-generation bottles for future missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 12+ years’ experience working with composite materials.
• 12+ years demonstrated experience designing and analyzing COPVs, SRMs, or similar.
• Hands-on experience fabricating composite parts in university or industry.
• Strong knowledge of hand calculations for structural sizing and model validation.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, build, test, and document COPVs and COPV mounting structures.
• Formulate cradle-to-grave road map for hardware.
• Automate COPV development and processes for design, analysis, and documentation.
• Collaborate with suppliers supporting COPV processes and materials.
• Size COPVs for future vehicles considering requirements and trade space.
• Support first article build and ramp to production with manufacturing; incorporate DFM and reliability.
