Job summary

Job description

Responsibilities

Must be familiar with the operation of food service equipment; Must have a working knowledge of food sanitation and know acceptable techniques in handling and service of food to guests. Supervises other cooks and ensures proper techniques and procedures are followed daily. Bakes, roasts, broils, grills, steams all types of food product. Has responsibilities during tray line assembly process. Must help maintain floors clean and assist with overall kitchen cleanliness. Consistently demonstrates concern for cleanliness of work area. Knows how to lift properly and avoid kitchen related accidents. Wash certain items by hand, such as pots and pans. Plans ahead and sets up for the next day by prepping and planning accordingly. Communicates effectively with Supervisors/Managers regarding pertinent information.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English/Spanish languages.

• 2 years of training in the culinary arts desired.

• Four years of experience in high volume food production as cook.

• Experience in catering, menu planning, food preparation and service.

• Basic computer skills desired.

• Must be able to travel as needed for position.

• Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

Education / Licensure

• Certified by the City of McAllen or Edinburg (depending on facility employed) or accredited by the State of Texas and ANSI—the American National Standard Institute as a food handler.

• High School diploma, GED or Higher Education required; or at least four years of prior experience as a Cook considered in lieu of a degree.
