Job Summary

PRN Rotate. The Dietary Cook prepares food for various areas of the department. Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food for cafeteria and/or patient services and other areas as assigned.
• Follows standardized recipes.
• Works as a grill cook in cafeteria if needed.
• Preps food for production as assigned.
• Prepares salads and desserts according to standardized recipes.
• Handles the preparation of the food in accordance with sanitary regulations.
• Assures that all BHS standards for safety, sanitation, and HACCP are adhered to at all times.
• Adheres to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Determines whether a product is prepared correctly and decides if it is to be served.
• Discerns through vision (color perception) and taste the quality of prepared food items.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of all equipment used in the kitchen.
• Understands and applies proper sanitation regulations to the daily operations of the department.
• Checks temperature of prepared foods at various times during the day.
• Communicates with verbal and written skills to coworkers and supervisors.
• Assures the timely delivery of food.
• Checks patient trays–temperature and content.
• Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively.
• Maintains safe work environment.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities.

Qualifications

PREFERRED EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 year of cooking experience in a restaurant or healthcare environment

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: ANSI Accredited Texas Food Handler or ANSI Accredited Food Manager course or Certified Food Manager from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District
