Job summary

Portland State University is seeking a Lead Cook for the Helen Gordon Child Development Center on campus. The role involves assisting the Food Program Coordinator in meal preparation for children, managing kitchen duties, and ensuring meals meet dietary needs and CACFP guidelines.

The position requires a minimum of two years of cooking experience in a regulated setting or an associates degree in a related field, with a 1.0 FTE schedule, Monday–Friday on campus.

Qualifications

• Two years of cooking experience in an institution or commercial firm serving complete meals; OR
• An Associates degree in Food Service Management, Foods and Hospitality Service, or a directly-related field.

Responsibilities

• Prepare three nutritious meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack) following USDA/CACFP guidelines.
• Order food and kitchen supplies; menu planning; inventory; writing recipes.
• Organize and maintain a full-service kitchen and oversee daily kitchen work to accommodate allergies and family preferences.
