Job summary

Otterbein SeniorLife, a not-for-profit retirement community in Jackson, MI, is seeking a Lead Cook to join our team. You will participate in the preparation, cooking and serving of all food items to residents, guests, and partners under strict sanitary conditions.

Responsibilities include reading menus, procuring food, preparing meals, and maintaining sanitation. Experience in LTC or similar settings is preferred, with a strong focus on quality and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED preferred
• Experience: 2 to 5 year’s cooking experience in LTC or similar setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Reads menu to estimate food requirements. Procures food from storage.
• Prepares and cooks food in accordance with company standards.
• Measures and mixes ingredients; uses kitchen utensils and equipment to prepare soups, salads, gravies, desserts, sauces, casseroles and other menu items.
• Maintains sanitation and orderliness of equipment, supplies and utensils in the work area.
• Coordinates work with other food service employees to prevent waste and to facilitate utilization of any overproduction.
