Job summary

Johnson Electric Group is seeking a Sr. Engineer, Controls & PLC to join the Springfield, TN team on a 100% onsite basis.

The role focuses on leading automation projects across design, commissioning, startup, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting. The candidate will design and optimize PLC-controlled equipment, collaborate with robotics and machine vision systems, and drive uptime and efficiency with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation or related field.
7+ years of experience in controls engineering or automotive manufacturing environments.
Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs, HMI systems, and control system architecture.

Responsibilities

Design, program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC-controlled equipment and automation systems.
Lead automation projects including controls design, commissioning, startup, validation, and continuous improvement.
Support integration of robotics, machine vision systems, sensors, safety devices, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve uptime, process capability and efficiency.
Manage automation vendors, system integrators, and equipment suppliers for project execution.
Develop and maintain controls documentation, standards, schematics, and work instructions.
