Job summary

Jim Myers & Sons, Inc. seeks a Controls Engineer to lead control systems design for JMS projects. You will own PLC/HMI programming, electrical documentation, testing, commissioning, and field troubleshooting from kickoff to closeout.

You will collaborate with Project Engineers and design teams to deliver safe, reliable control solutions, including site startup and training. This role requires travel to customer sites and fabrication locations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial control systems.
• Proficiency with PLC and HMI programming; Rockwell Automation and Siemens platforms preferred.
• Knowledge of control panels, electrical schematics, motor controls, VFDs, instrumentation, and industrial networks.

Responsibilities

• Define controls scope, deliverables, schedule, budget, and risks with Project Engineers.
• Review proposals and specs; define controls requirements, clarifications, and exclusions.
• Develop control narratives and sequences of operation for intended processes.
• Prepare I/O lists, instrument lists, network architecture, panel layouts, schematics, and BOMs.
• Select and specify PLCs, HMIs, remote I/O, VFDs, motor starters, and safety devices.
• Program, configure, test, and document PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial communications.
• Integrate JMS equipment with motors, conveyors, gates, safety circuits, and customer systems.
• Coordinate interfaces with various teams; review vendor submittals and RFIs.
• Check designs for accuracy and conformance; conduct factory acceptance testing.
• Provide site checkout, startup, commissioning, tuning, and training; travel to sites.
• Complete as-built drawings and O&M content following JMS safety rules.
