Job description

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Controls Engineer oversees and leads the development of PLC and HMI programs for safe, effective, and efficient operation of States Mfg. products and processes while meeting and exceeding company quality and production standards and customer documentation and delivery requirements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and oversee all aspects of programming of PLC’s, HMIs, and remote I/O devices in a fast-paced, collaborative, manufacturing environment, and a project management structure to ensure workflow remains within schedule and budget requirements.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and sales agreements and provide directions to other engineers and designers.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design and quality problems, and pursue continuous improvement of design and manufacturing and installation processes and methods.
  • Provide training, author documentation, procedures and work instructions to mentor and grow the technical competencies of engineering teams.
  • Support new product development initiatives by remaining up to date with new industry products, technologies and trends.
  • Preserve and grow strong relationships with Forgent Power suppliers, manufacturers and vendors.
  • Provide onsite commercial and technical field support with up to 25% of local regional trips to customers and suppliers, including a small number of occasional domestic trips, and rarely non-domestic flights.
  • Follow all housekeeping procedures and rules, comply with all quality and safety regulations.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • BS in relevant engineering discipline (or 2-year technical degree with equivalent related experience).
  • 4+ years of engineering and technical experience.
  • Proficient with a variety of communication protocols, including but not limited to: Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet IP, & Profinet.
  • Provide project coordination and management for customer orders.
  • Establish and maintain internal, customer, and supplier relationships.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Proficient with PLC and HMI software.
  • PLC – Emerson PAC Machine Edition or Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Schneider Electric Ecostructure
  • HMI – Emerson Movicon/PAC Machine Ed. or Allen Bradley Factorytalk View Machine Edition, Ignition

Additional Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with SCADA integration (Inductive Automation Ignition, Blue Open Studio, or Wonderware InTouch).
  • Experience with Schweitzer AcSELerator Quickset, Schneider Electric Control Logix, or Woodward Toolkit software.
  • Experience with GE Multilin or Basler DECS software is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and have competencies across electrical, mechanical and software design and commissioning functions.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through collaboration, innovative thought and experience.
  • Commercial and design experience related to renewables, emerging energy markets, data centers battery systems, stored energy and charging stations a plus.
