Job summary

Worthington Steel in Porter, Indiana, is seeking a Controls Engineer to keep our steel processing operations safe, reliable, and efficient. This hands-on role works with plant equipment and partners with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to troubleshoot issues and drive automation improvements.

You’ll work with PLCs, HMIs, drives, instrumentation, and industrial networks to support equipment reliability, upgrades, and capital projects.

Qualifications

3–5 years in industrial or steel processing environments.
Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley systems.
ABB or Siemens drives experience a plus.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Serve as lead technical resource for PLCs, HMIs, drives, instrumentation, and industrial networking.
Troubleshoot and improve PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, and networks.
Partner with Operations and Maintenance to improve uptime, throughput, quality, and safety.
Diagnose electrical and controls issues and implement permanent solutions.
Support new equipment installations, controls upgrades, and capital projects.
Manage small- to medium-sized process improvement and capital projects.
Identify aging automation systems and help develop modernization plans.
Maintain controls programs, drawings, documentation, and standards.
Support industrial Ethernet networks and PLC communications.
Provide secondary support for plant OT infrastructure.
Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
