Job summary

Altria is seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to lead design, implementation, and optimization of automation and control systems for its manufacturing operations in Hopkinsville, KY. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with IWS stakeholders and extensive travel to nearby sites.

The candidate should have a bachelor’s in electrical or related field and at least 5 years of controls experience, with strong PLC programming, HMIs/SCADA, and knowledge of Rockwell/Allen-Bradley

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, mechatronics, or related field.
• 5+ years of controls engineering experience in manufacturing.
• Strong hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with industrial automation platforms and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, SCADA, and industrial control systems.
• Support automation integration across processing, packaging, and conveying systems.
• Configure VFDs, servo systems, instrumentation, and process controls.
• Lead controls-related aspects of capital projects from concept to commissioning.
• Coordinate with OEMs, system integrators, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Support FAT/SAT execution and system validation.
• Maintain proper documentation, backups, and change management.
