As a Lead Controls Engineer, you will be crucial to ALC’s business through designing advanced building automation systems tailored for each customer. We seek someone who works well in a team, with excellent problem-solving, time management, and multi-tasking skills. You will solve complex problems, contribute to new products and processes, and coach, review, and delegate work to less experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design advanced building automation systems, including specifying and sizing controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and hardware.
  2. Create sequences of operation for controlling building systems as needed.
  3. Document the BAS design (submittals) and manage revision control.
  4. Finalize documentation of the building automation system, incorporating all changes since the initial submittal.
  5. Develop and mentor other Controls Engineers.
  6. Ensure project compliance with design, programming, and implementation standards.
  7. Create clear and detailed design documents for project teams.
  8. Document and communicate system designs and revisions effectively.
  9. Develop graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems.
  10. Provide technical support to sales to meet customer needs and support functional testing of complex systems.
  11. Advise on design and programming standards, parts, and practices.
  12. Identify and communicate project opportunities and risks related to cost, time, and technical aspects.
  13. Create clear RFIs proactively and timely.
  14. Maintain clear communication and set proactive expectations with managers and project teams.
  15. Adhere to safety and ethics standards, exemplifying Carrier's code of ethics.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of engineering or HVAC controls experience, OR
  • Associate Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, OR
  • High School Diploma/GED with 10+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Construction.
  • Experience in HVAC controls or related fields.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Ability to design and program complex projects using Automated Logic or similar systems.
  • Skill in interpreting plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficiency with building automation software, protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2), and enterprise IP networks.
  • Experience with advanced sequences of operations and diagrammatic system depictions.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting remotely.
  • Excellent time management and software skills (Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • A team-oriented attitude with a positive outlook.
  • Valid government-issued ID and ability to reliably report to work location.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, use lift equipment, and lift items up to 50 lbs.
