Job summary

American Rooter & Drain seeks a Controller to lead accounting services for a multi-trade contractor portfolio. You will own the monthly close, reconcile GL to subledgers, and ensure balance-sheet integrity across multiple entities.

You will correct prior-period errors with documented root-cause analyses and controls, handling depreciation and loan splits as needed. You will review bookkeeper output, write clear procedural documentation, and report movements with explanations.

Qualifications

• Have owned a monthly close by yourself.
• Able to clean up books someone else broke and explain how you found the problem.
• Resolved subledger vs GL mismatches with meaningful detail.
• Documented work as you go and explained root causes.
• Comfortable with software; run reports and learn new systems without a training department.
• Able to communicate findings clearly to business owners.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close from start to finish with a documented process.
• Reconcile the general ledger to the ServiceTitan subledger every month with an explained variance.
• Maintain balance-sheet integrity across multiple entities and trades.
• Correct prior-period errors with documentation, root-cause analysis, and controls.
• Handle loan principal/interest splits, fixed assets, and depreciation.
• Prepare the monthly reporting package with explanations of movements.
• Review the bookkeeper's work and provide feedback.
• Document processes so others can run the books.
