Job summary

Thermo Systems is seeking a field‑oriented Control Systems Technician lead to support control system projects and service teams. You will travel to client locations for installations, maintenance, or repairs, coordinating with project leads and supervisors as needed.

The role emphasizes hands‑on installation, start‑up, FAT, troubleshooting, and strong documentation, with an expectation of travel and effective communication with customers.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical equivalent in engineering technology or related field.
  • Typically 3 to 7+ years of industry experience.
  • Proven track record: 3+ years as Lead Control Systems Technician I or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist in project installation, start-up and commissioning of control systems.
  • Lead and perform instrument loop checks, calibrations, FAT, and wiring.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs and wiring diagrams; document work performed.
  • Interact with customers and coordinate field activities at client sites.

Education

Associate in Engineering Technology / Engineering Technology related degree
3–7+ years industry experience

Location

Onsite in East Windsor, NJ. Open to candidates who also reside in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont – these locations would require heavy travel.

Term

Full Time | Direct Hire

Compensation

$80,000 – $93,000 annually + bonus eligibility.

Travel

Local candidates up to 25%. Candidates local to the states eligible will require heavy travel.

Job Summary

Provides technical support and field coordination to control system projects and service teams. Is accountable for assigned tasks. Listens, takes direction, and seeks guidance from the assigned project leads, supervisors, and company leadership. Travel to client locations for installations, maintenance, or repairs of control systems.

Education and Experience
  • Associate in Applied Science or Associate in Science in Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems Technology, relevant curriculum, or experience.
  • Typically 3 to 7+ years industry experience.
  • Proven track record: 3+ years as Lead Control Systems Technician I or equivalent.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Lead and assist in project installation, start‑up and commissioning of control systems.
  • Lead and perform instrument loop checks and calibrations.
  • Expert in maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of control systems.
  • Lead and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Wire instruments and control panels.
  • Demonstrate intermediate understanding of Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications.
  • Expert with startup and troubleshooting of Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) applications.
  • Expert with startup and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications.
  • Read and interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams and wiring diagrams. Provide feedback regarding field conditions versus drawings.
  • Practice procedures outlined in the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Accurately document work performed.
  • Demonstrate intermediate understanding of control system design.
  • Demonstrate intermediate understanding of electrical and mechanical system design.
  • Understand IT system, network infrastructure, and computer system design, as it relates to control system integration.
  • Seek accredited control systems certifications and training opportunities.
  • Develop and demonstrate strong verbal and written business communication skills.
Customer Service
  • Communicate in an effective, positive, and proactive manner with customers.
  • Follow customer‑specific site standards and procedures.
  • Always conduct business in a professional manner.
  • Provide excellent customer care and support.
  • Be patient, attentive, and responsive to customers in solving their problems.

Project Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and under budget.
  • Understand the scope of work assigned to you, identify when issues arise beyond that scope, and communicate those issues to the assigned project lead.
  • Where applicable, direct and oversee junior or subordinate staff members regarding construction, operations, and/or maintenance tasks and assignments at a project site.
Supervisory Responsibilities (Only if applicable)
  • Participate in management and leadership training.
  • Manage staff technician schedules.
  • Effectively manage technician flow to align with company priorities.
Required Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Up to 100% of time spent at customer locations with overnight travel up to 60%.
On Call
  • On‑call rotation participation may be required based on location and client needs.

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the country where the position is located is required.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
