Job description

Lead Content Creator (Videographer / Editor)

Santa Ana, CA · In office · Creative / Marketing

Read this before you apply.

This role is in our Santa Ana office five days a week. The drive from LA is brutal. The drive from San Diego isn't much better. Do the math on your commute before you hit apply.

The non-negotiables
  • In office, five days a week.
  • Your filming hat is always on. The best moments don't get scheduled.
  • Comfortable traveling from time to time. It isn't frequent.
  • Comfortable in the field from time to time.
  • You manage your own time. You know when to study and strategize, when to use AI and when not to, when to edit and when to shoot.

ONCE AGAIN, YOU MANAGE YOUR OWN TIME. YOU KNOW WHEN TO STUDY AND STRATEGIZE, WHEN TO USE AI AND WHEN NOT TO, WHEN TO EDIT AND WHEN TO SHOOT.

Do not apply without reels that show
  • BTS / docu style.
  • Storytelling with a clear start, middle and end.
  • Hype. Show us you can match or beat the hype videos already on our IG.
  • Directing real people. Footage where you pulled a natural, on-camera moment out of someone who isn't a performer.
What we don't want
  • Someone who waits to be told what to film.
  • Someone who only chases views and clicks.
  • Someone who only films the wins and puts the camera down when things get hard.
  • Someone who needs a crew and a gear list to make something good.
  • Ego. This job is about what's best for turn long term, not your reel.
Who we want

A storyteller, a director and a visionary. You bring ideas to the table. You see the story in a normal Tuesday at the office, you know how to shape it, and you know how to direct the people in it to get there. We bring ideas too. The best work here comes from building off of each other, and that's how turn's story on social will evolve.

You know the exciting moments are great, and the hard moments matter just as much. A launch, a mistake, a long night fixing something. That's the story.

You ask why before you hit record. Why are we filming this? Why are we posting it? Who is it for? You know top, middle and bottom of funnel, and you edit for the one you're in.

You follow what's moving on social and you lead with direction. You also know a quick view isn't the goal. The LinkedIn piece that earns respect and the YouTube video people finish matter as much as the thing that goes viral. We want an audience that sticks like glue.

You're comfortable getting in people's faces. You prompt, you push, you pull the personality out of someone who doesn't think they have one. Our team has been here a long time and every one of them should get a chance to shine.

You get our ethos. We make fun of ourselves, a lot like Liquid Death, and we take education, innovation, iteration and creativity seriously. You aren't coming to film a cannabis brand. You're coming to film a brand and a family. turn is family founded and independent, and our mission is simple: it's your turn.

The work itself
  • Help build and fill the content calendar. You bring media ideas for every pillar the company needs, then go make them.
  • Shoot and edit for Instagram, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, X and live.
  • Tell stories with a start, middle and end, whether it runs 15 seconds or 15 minutes.
  • Direct the people in front of the camera. Prompt them, coach them, get the real version.
  • Capture behind the scenes every day for stories. We want people to fall in love with the team, the way you fall in love with The Office.
  • Start every piece with a purpose: where it lives, which part of the funnel it serves, and why it matters.
  • Know when an iPhone and a quick edit is enough, or no edit at all. A lot of our best content needs nothing more than thinking smart about the moment.
  • Act as the bridge to strategy. We plan to add a social media strategist, and until then you carry the why behind every post.
Bonus points
  • You've filmed short scripted series, around 90 seconds an episode.
  • You've made founder-led content. Our audience should understand how we think when we create products, roll them out, and own our mistakes.
  • You've run or produced live streams.
The first 90 days
  • First 30: we're in the middle of several launches, so there's no ramp up. You're shooting from day one and learning the team and products on the fly.
  • By 60: a steady weekly rhythm across every platform, each post tied to a clear why.
  • By 90: a recurring series in motion and a point of view on what turn should be on social next.
Compensation

$100,000 to $150,000 depending on proven experience, which will be vetted through your portfolio and the interview process.

The practicals
  • Location: Santa Ana, CA. In office, five days a week.
  • Occasional travel and field work.
  • With your reel, pick two or three pieces and tell us what your role was and why you made them the way you did.
A note from the founders

We built turn as a family, and the people here are the reason it works. We want someone who sees that and knows how to show it. The good days, the hard days, and everything in between. If that's you, we want to see your work.
