Job summary

Freenome seeks a Computational Biologist to advance the CBAR team and develop early cancer detection tests using cfDNA as biomarkers. You will lead analysis, design studies, and build pipelines for high-throughput NGS data, collaborating with Molecular Research, Model R&D, and Assay Development to enable assay feasibility.

Qualifications include a PhD in a related field, strong programming skills (Python, R), and experience with NGS workflows.

Qualifications

  • PhD required in computational biology, cancer biology, statistics, bioinformatics, or related quantitative field.
  • Experience in NGS assay and pipeline development with high-throughput data processing.
  • Strong quantitative reasoning and data analysis skills.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (NumPy, Matplotlib, Pandas) or R.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for scientific and broader audiences.
  • Ability to work on a cross-functional team with computational and experimental scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of molecular and clinical data in the context of early cancer detection, serving as a thought leader on the Computational Science team.
  • Suggest research hypotheses and plan, scope, and execute studies in partnership with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop bioinformatics pipelines to enable high-throughput NGS data processing and analysis.
  • Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to characterize and iterate on experimental methods with real-time assessments of assay performance.
  • Remain at the forefront of molecular techniques and contribute to next-generation assays for early cancer detection.
