Job summary

Doña Ana County in Las Cruces, NM seeks a Senior Planner-Lead to perform advanced land use planning under the Chief Planner - Current Planning. You will oversee the Current Planning Division staff, develop work programs, budgets, and update the Unified Development Code.

You will coordinate with multiple departments, conduct public outreach, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with state statutes and county ordinances while delivering high-quality customer service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration or related field required; Master’s preferred.
• Four years of progressive land use or planning experience.
• AICP certification or ability to obtain within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist with updating the Unified Development Code and related planning documents.
• Prepare staff reports and presentations on complex development issues.
• Support annual Community Development Work Program and division budget.
• Collect and analyze data and prepare reports for planning decisions.
• Organize public outreach and education for county initiatives.
• Develop short- and long-range work plans and schedules for Current Planning.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship to Current Planning staff.
