Job summary

M.C. Dean is seeking a Telecommunications Technician 2 to plan, lay out, and install new and retrofit commercial communications equipment and systems.

The role emphasizes structured cabling, testing of copper and fiber, and adherence to plans, codes, and standards. Responsibilities include termination and testing of Cat5E/Cat6, fiber, patch panels, and cable labeling, with opportunities to mentor apprentices and support OSP work.

Qualifications

• 4+ years prior experience in commercial communications industry with a high school diploma or GED or 2+ years of experience with an Associate degree.
• Must have a valid driver’s license to operate equipment (training provided).
• Prior experience in communications work including room build-out, Cat6, Cat6A and fiber optic termination.
• Interpret and maintain drawing and as-builts.
• Familiarity with BlueBeam, Fluke Versiv, MS Office Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of BICSI guidelines for proper install and termination procedures.

Responsibilities

• Install video and data cable (Cat5E/Cat6) and fiber.
• Terminate and test horizontal copper (Cat5/Cat6).
• Terminate fiber and riser cable.
• Install patch panels and label/test cables.
• Install backbone and riser cables (copper & fiber).
• Install interior conduit, Panduit and Wiremold; read plans and specs.
• Mentor apprentices and assist in OSP installations.
• Pull and terminate telecom cables; ensure safety and quality.
