Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Arlington, VA seeks a Staff Commissioning Engineer to lead commissioning, retro-commissioning, and energy projects with field startups and cross-functional teams.

You will plan, schedule, review design documents and submittals, coordinate with owners and operations, perform on-site testing, and train staff. Requires a BS in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, 3+ years of commissioning experience, OSHA 30-hour certification within 3 months, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years direct commissioning or related startup/testing experience on facility systems.
• Certification in the Commissioning Process, Energy Management, and/or LEED Accreditation a plus.
• Strong facilitation, teamwork, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with monitoring equipment such as flow meters, temperature loggers, electrical meters is a plus.
• OSHA 30-hour Safety Training certification required within first 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Manage and execute commissioning, retro-commissioning and energy-related projects.
• Plan, schedule, and perform work for small to mid-size projects and support larger programs.
• Participate in meetings with owners, operations, design and construction to align goals and schedule.
• Prepare commissioning plans, specifications, checklists and functional test documentation per Burns & McDonnell standards.
• Review design, submittals, operation manuals, start-up reports and training programs.
• Perform site visits to coordinate commissioning, witness start-ups and testing, and document results.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to recommend solutions for non-conformances and improve methodologies.
• Assist with training operations staff to sustain commissioned systems and support continuous commissioning.
• Travel may be required up to 25% and occasional extended workdays may occur.
