Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer to lead testing and commissioning for complex substation projects in the Northeast. You will partner with System Test and Protection & Controls teams to develop robust testing plans and ensure compliant commissioning of substation equipment.

The role requires eight years of utility distribution/transmission experience, a BS in electrical engineering or related field, and a valid CT/MA driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years in utility distribution/transmission engineering in addition to the bachelor’s degree.
  • Electrical engineering knowledge with a focus on substation project testing and commissioning.
  • Valid CT/MA driver’s license.
  • Must be available to work emergency storm assignments as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Must be able to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, under current hybrid guidelines.
  • Must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed or if policy changes.
  • Ability to work in office and utility substation environments, including sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
  • May require on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans and procedures for testing and commissioning highly complex transmission and distribution substation projects.
  • Work with System Test and Protection & Controls Engineering to develop project test and commissioning plans.
  • Commission substation equipment including breakers, transformers, controls, systems, relays, and metering.
  • Optimize the cost and performance of transmission/distribution system assets.
  • Coordinate evaluation of system failures and appropriate resolutions to support operations during unplanned maintenance.
  • Share accountability for the organization’s long-term transmission/distribution Life Cycle Plan.
  • Supervise, assign, prioritize, and direct work performed by other engineers.
  • Ensure complex substation projects are tested and commissioned according to industry and Eversource standards.
  • Assist in developing standards and procedures for substation testing and commissioning.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and develop and implement corrective actions related to project commissioning.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and review the performance of engineers and other staff.
  • Supervise engineers and other direct reports administratively and/or functionally.
  • Provide technical support and direction to operating areas during normal and emergency situations.
