Due to continued growth, TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking a Lead Commissioning Engineer.

With a staff of over 200 experienced utility and industrial commissioning engineers and test technicians, TRC delivers comprehensive, cost-effective solutions safely to our Electric Utility Customers while providing the best training programs and mentors in this industry and numerous opportunities for growth with excellent benefits.

Our staff undergoes extensive, in-house training, ensuring efficient project start up and adherence to your individual standards and specifications. We follow well documented procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and thorough planning and testing, so we can manage risk and safeguard ongoing operations.


Responsibilities

  • Perform testing/routine maintenance of Transmission and Distribution substation power equipment, relaying (electro-mechanical, solid state and micro-processor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer trip, fiber optic, Continuous Variable Transmission (CVTs), line tuners, line traps, etc.), controls and communications equipment testing, including (without limitation)
  • Reading/verifying all voltage and current inputs to relays
  • Verifying all metering (local and SCADA); calibrating all relays; trip testing (local and SCADA)
  • Verifying all alarms (local and SCADA); verifying all function switches, etc.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment in Transmission and Distribution substations
  • Commission new Transmission and Distribution substations, power equipment, relaying (electromechanical, solid state and micro-processor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer trip, fiber optic, line tuners, line traps, etc.), controls and communications equipment
  • Plan, schedule, and complete projects efficiently, on schedule, and without service interruptions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: BS or BSET degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Professional Engineer (PE) desirable
  • Minimum of 7 years field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes
  • Experience is desirable in any of the following related areas: substation design (including protection & control engineering); substation construction; substation commissioning; SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively
  • Knowledge of 3-phase power systems and fault analysis; power system protection & control schemes; test equipment; test equipment software; SCADA remotes
  • Skills: Project management; test equipment and tool/wiring usage; interpretation of wiring and elementary diagrams; basic test skills to perform duties listed above; troubleshooting skills; basic PC skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment; communicate effectively with diverse groups, tailoring communication for audience and situation

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
