Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies in the United States are seeking an experienced underwriter to evaluate, price, and select commercial lines business within approved authority. You will work closely with distribution partners to support growth while maintaining profitability.

This role offers a hybrid schedule (2 days remote / 3 in-office), competitive pay, day-one medical/dental/vision, and a strong benefits package including 401(k) and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Professional designations such as AU or CPCU preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers Compensation.
• Strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures.
• Familiarity with insurance policy language and coverage forms.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Evaluate, select, and price commercial lines business while supporting the performance and profitability of the portfolio.

Work closely with distribution partners and agency relationships, applying underwriting judgment and market awareness to support thoughtful growth within your assigned authority.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Evaluate, select, and price new and renewal business in alignment with underwriting standards and authority


• Partner with Distribution to support territory production and profitability


• Travel to key agency partner relationships, participate in virtual meetings, and attend industry events as needed

Salary Range

$60,000.00-$125,000.00 USD

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‑faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
