Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Whitakers, NC, seeks an experienced Engineer in thermal and fluid sciences to analyze combustion and emissions performance of energy conversion systems.

You will lead problem solving and specify requirements, using hardware-in-the-loop tests with GT-Power, Fluent, Converge and Concerto to support decisions. The role requires a Master’s in Mechanical/Automotive/Systems Engineering or a Bachelor’s with significant related experience, and is on-site with relocation support.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Systems Engineering or equivalent with 3 years' related experience.
• Alternative: Bachelor's degree with 5 years' related experience in thermal and fluid sciences, combustion and emissions.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and standard work processes.

Responsibilities

• Answer key questions about performance and architecture of energy conversion systems.
• Lead processes like VPI, VPC, ESW and emissions data systems to support decisions.
• Interpret and predict combustion system performance using modeling tools and experimental methods.
• Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements and establish acceptance criteria.
• Apply Systems Thinking to predict behavior and propose design modifications.
