Pay Rate: Hourly, based on experience + production incentive
We're hiring a Lead Collision / Paint Technician to build and run the collision and refinish side of our shop — Class A motorcoaches, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and the occasional toy hauler that met a gas pump. You'll do the work yourself, set the standard for everyone who joins after you, and help us pick the body, prep, and paint helpers who round out your crew.
The person who succeeds here takes pride in invisible repairs, can blend a full-body paint coach without a line showing, and writes down what they did so the estimator can get paid for it.
This isn't a production-line body shop. It's a build-the-department job. We already own a ~$200K paint booth that will be reinstalled in our new purpose-built facility, and you'll have a real say in how the collision bays, prep area, and mixing room get laid out.
Convenience RV is a vertically-integrated Class A RV operation in Willis, TX — sales, parts, service, storage, rentals, collision. We're growing toward a multi-bay, multi-phase facility, and the systems and processes are being written right now. If "I built this department" sounds better to you than "I fit into someone else's," read on.
Growth Path
This role is a lead position from day one. As Phase 1 brings our new facility and collision bays online, you'll build out a crew of Body Technician(s) and a Prep Technician — and you'll sit in on every one of those hires. As volume grows, this position is expected to become Collision Shop Foreman, owning crew scheduling, cycle time, and quality for the department.
What Your Day Looks Like:
- Structural & panel repair: Fiberglass, gelcoat, and aluminum-skin repair; front and rear cap replacement; slide-out and compartment-door damage; sidewall delamination; trim, moldings, and decal removal/replacement.
- Refinish & paint: Prep, prime, block, and refinish in the booth; color matching and tinting; blending multi-color full-body paint schemes; clear coat, cut and buff.
- Teardown & damage review: Thorough teardown on new arrivals so hidden damage is found up front — photos and notes to the Collision Estimator / DRP Coordinator for the estimate or supplement.
- Crew lead & quality check: Assigning work to helpers, checking prep before it goes in the booth, final QC walk-around before the RV goes back to the customer.
- Shop & booth upkeep: Booth filters and maintenance logs, mixing-room organization, materials inventory with Parts, hazardous-waste and SDS compliance.
- Time & documentation: Clocking labor against each repair order in Fullbay, photo documentation, notes the insurer will ask for.
Required:
- 5+ years of collision repair and refinish experience, with at least 2 years on RVs, motorcoaches, marine, or heavy-truck bodies (fiberglass and gelcoat, not just steel unibody).
- Proven refinish skill — multi-stage color matching and blending, and comfortable painting large panels and full sides in a downdraft booth.
- Your own hand tools. We provide the booth, compressors, lifts, and major equipment.
- Clean MVR at hire and annual recheck. You’ll need to move units around the property; position is conditioned on insurability under the company’s commercial auto policy.
- Comfortable documenting work in shop software on a tablet or computer (photos, notes, labor time).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead by example, and finish what you start.
Preferred:
- I-CAR training (Gold Class or Platinum track) and/or ASE B-series certifications (B2 Painting & Refinishing, B3 Non-Structural, B4 Structural).
- OEM-specific training from Class A manufacturers or paint systems (PPG, Axalta, Sherwin-Williams).
- Experience working to insurance DRP standards and writing supplements with an estimator.
- Experience leading or training other technicians.
- Texas non-commercial Class B driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 60 days) for moving Class A motorhomes over 26,001 lbs GVWR.
- Familiarity with Fullbay shop software helpful but not required.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Full-time, in-person, on-site in Willis, Texas. Remote work is not applicable.
- Shop environment with paint, solvents, dust, and noise; employer-provided respirator fit-testing and PPE are mandatory and enforced.
- Work on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts up to 13 feet; standing, kneeling, and reaching overhead for extended periods.
- Lifting requirements: 50 lbs frequent, 75 lbs occasional, team-lift for caps and large panels.
- Today we work out of our current shop; you’ll move into the new purpose-built facility when Phase 1 opens.
- Hourly pay commensurate with experience, non-exempt — eligible for overtime pay at 1.5× for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
- Production incentive — a performance-based incentive tied to flagged collision labor hours and comebacks, established as the department beds in.
- Crew-lead differential as helpers are added to your team.
- Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance available; paid time off; employee discount; professional development assistance, including I-CAR and paint-manufacturer training.
- Career growth: clear path to Collision Shop Foreman as Phase 1 brings the collision bays online.
