Job summary

Liberty Mutual is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Quoting Platform in the USRM Technology group. You will design, build, and operate AWS-native microservices powering direct-channel quoting and binding, with hands-on delivery and cross-team collaboration across Digital Sales, Olympus (DRC), and SPG.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, architectural influence, and mentoring, with a focus on scalable, reliable services using Java and TypeScript/Node.js on AWS.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience delivering large-scale distributed systems.
• Proven experience with Java and TypeScript/Node.js; full-stack is a plus.
• Hands-on with Spring Boot and event-driven Java frameworks.
• Experience building and operating services on AWS (Fargate, Lambda, S3, IAM).
• NoSQL data stores, esp. DynamoDB; familiarity with DocumentDB/MongoDB.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance-tuning skills.
• Understanding of distributed systems, service integrations, and automation frameworks.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate highly available, scalable microservices and APIs for quoting and binding.
• Lead architecture discussions and system design for complex integrations.
• Build and maintain services on TypeScript/Node.js and Java on AWS (Fargate, Lambda).
• Model and manage data using DynamoDB and DocumentDB; ensure reliability and performance.
• Drive cross-team integration with Digital Sales, Olympus (DRC), and SPG to meet product needs.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in testing, deployment, security, and observability.
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
• Evaluate and standardize engineering tools and CI/CD practices.
