Position Summary

The Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Specialty Pharmacy Services, plays a pivotal leadership role in ensuring high-quality, compliant, and patient-centered specialty pharmacy care across UVA Health’s ambulatory and specialty service lines. This role supports clinical initiatives such as disease management, outcomes reporting, accreditation compliance, and operational standardization in specialty pharmacy areas, including rare diseases and cell & gene therapies (CGT). The lead pharmacist serves as a clinical expert, oversees workflows, mentors pharmacists, and helps maintain UVA Health’s leadership in innovative, outcomes-driven specialty pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Operations & Workflow Support
   • Lead daily clinical pharmacy workflows, ensuring alignment with payer requirements and high-touch therapeutic services.
   • Coordinate and troubleshoot complex patient therapy cases for timely interventions and medication safety.
   • Support EMR workflows, documentation standards, and handoff processes for therapy initiation and monitoring.
2. Training, Education & Mentorship
   • Onboard, train, and mentor new pharmacists, students, and residents; serve as a preceptor.
   • Standardize practices and facilitate team updates on standards, payer expectations, and best practices.
   • Serve as a senior resource for clinical decision-making and therapeutic policies.
3. Compliance, Quality & Accreditation Readiness
   • Ensure compliance with accreditation and payer documentation standards.
   • Lead quality initiatives, audits, and medication safety efforts.
   • Serve as the senior clinical pharmacist per accreditation standards and lead quality review meetings.
4. Payer & Accreditation Reporting
   • Support data submission, outcomes tracking, and performance dashboards.
   • Collaborate on pharmacy quality programs and reporting.
5. Team & Communication Liaison
   • Act as liaison among pharmacists, operations, access services, and providers.
   • Participate in meetings to align clinical initiatives and systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Specialty Pharmacy Board Certification (CSP) required or within 12 months.
• Leadership experience in clinical pharmacy, accreditation, quality, and collaboration.

Additional Responsibilities

• Enter and process prescribing orders.
• Oversee pharmacy technicians.
• Provide drug information to patients, caregivers, and providers.
• Perform pharmacy functions per regulations and guidelines.
• Oversee daily operations and quality of care.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Compensation Range

$55.67 - $89.07 Hourly

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D.
• No experience required.
• Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License.
• AHA BLS certification.
