Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Philadelphia VA Medical Center, seeks a Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Microbiology) within Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. Responsible for full supervisory duties, policy development, and ensuring adherence to accrediting standards.

Work schedule Monday–Friday, 0800–1630; telework is not authorized. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree or higher, specific MLS/MT certs, and U.S. citizenship with English proficiency.

Qualifications

• Applicants may be referred before education/certification is complete.
• US Citizenship is required; English proficiency must be demonstrated.
• Success at grade level GS-13 requires supervisory experience and KSAs.
• Preferred: 5+ years in Microbiology as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Responsibilities

• Plans and supervises the section's work with significant scope and complexity.
• Oversees test analyses, ensures quality and regulatory compliance.
• Manages staffing, scheduling, training, and competency assessments.
• Develops and updates technical policies and procedures.
• Collaborates across sections to support quality improvement projects.
