Job summary

Centinela Hospital Medical Center seeks a Lab Section Supervisor/Lead to oversee daily operations across hematology, chemistry, microbiology and more. You will provide consultative services to medical staff and lead the section's performance improvement and quality programs.

This role manages technical and fiscal aspects, ensures regulatory compliance, staff competency evaluations, and the accuracy of patient results before reporting. Strong LIS/POC experience and CLS license are required.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.
• Minimum five years hospital laboratory work experience required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements per CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489.
• Possession of a current and valid state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the section(s).
• Provide consultative services to the medical staff as Technical Consultant.
• Oversee the section/department performance improvement program and participate in hospital interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Manage technical and fiscal responsibilities of the section(s).
• Oversee the section(s) quality management/assurance program.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Assess staff competency and complete evaluations in a timely manner.
• Ensure the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
• Develop, maintain and update section policies and procedures.
• Review quality control results and document corrective actions as needed.
• Identify and address problems affecting test performance; notify Director/Medical Director.
• Perform a wide variety of lab procedures using manual and automated methods across disciplines.
• Ensure documentation of equipment maintenance on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
• Recognize age-specific differences in results from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested like patient samples and do not collaborate with other labs prior to reporting results.
• Keep policies and procedures current.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and HR policies.
• May be assigned LIS and/or POC responsibilities.
• Other tasks as assigned by the department manager/director.
