Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field and completion of internship.
• State of California Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or temporary license.
• One year hematology experience preferred.
• Knowledge of computer/telephony support, preferably in a health care environment.
• Strong customer service background, preferably in health care environment.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Competence with computer processing functions and other standard office equipment.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to calmly and professionally resolve customer issues with diplomacy and tact.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily laboratory staff and operations, ensuring efficiency.
• Effectively perform laboratory testing and reporting of results in an accurate, timely and efficient manner.
• Adhere to all quality assurance policies, documenting all quality control activities.
• Effectively perform equipment maintenance, including function checks, as scheduled with documentation according to laboratory policies.
• Resolve problems with testing and equipment in a timely and constructive manner; notify appropriate personnel of delays.
• Accurately determine acceptability of specimens and verify labeling prior to result release.
• Mentor lab personnel as needed.
• Perform testing on proficiency testing samples with documentation.
• Communicate with nursing staff and physicians regarding patient testing issues.
• Recognize critical values and follow notification procedures.
• Maintain inventory of reagent stock / supplies.
• Orient and train new personnel.
• Evaluate new testing methodology and contribute to procedures.
• Operate all computer hardware and software programs competently.
