Job summary

Personnel Board of Jefferson County in Alabama seeks a Principal Engineering Construction Inspector for the Roads & Transportation department. Qualifications

• Experience inspecting civil/public works projects to ensure contract compliance.
• Ability to calculate quantities, areas, volumes, and grades using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Supervisory experience including assigning, directing, training staff.

Responsibilities

• Communicates status of construction projects to engineers, contractors, attorneys, and the public.
• Oversees inspection of drainage structures, roads, bridges, utilities to ensure adherence to specs.
• Reviews contractors' work, monitors progress, approves payments, ensures material quality and quantity.
• Examines plans and conducts on-site inspections by reading maps/drawings and attending pre-con meetings.
• Engages in professional development and stays updated on rules, laws, and guidelines.
• Supervises staff by assigning work, providing feedback and training.
