Job summary

Apex Engineering Group is seeking a Lead Engineer to manage municipal projects from planning through construction in Detroit Lakes, MN. You will independently manage projects and mentor team members, while collaborating on design and development of plans and specs under senior leadership.

The role includes business development, preparing proposals, and participating in interviews to secure work. Travel and overtime may be required during construction season.

Qualifications

• BSc in Civil Engineering required; MS a plus.
• P.E. license preferred or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
• 7+ years of civil engineering in municipal projects.
• Experience in preparing civil design drawings, specs and cost opinions.
• Experience with local/state agencies is a plus.
• Strong project management and construction oversight skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; detail oriented.
• Proficient in Windows Office; CAD/GIS tools noted as plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional engineering services for studies, planning, design, specifications, plans and reports.
• Manage projects from planning through construction, including observation and management.
• Lead client and project meetings and communicate progress with stakeholders.
• Prepare proposals and participate in interviews for new work.
• Mentor engineering staff and coordinate multi-discipline teams.
• Ensure safety policies, ethical conduct and compliance with manuals.
• Travel/out-of-town stays may be required; overtime during construction season.
