Legacy Engineering is a small, woman-owned civil engineering firm specializing in land development design, geotechnical services, construction materials testing and inspections, along with surveying and consulting. We are headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and proudly serve clients throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond.

We are seeking a highly motivated Lead Project Engineer to join our team! If you are enthusiastic about civil engineering and eager to be challenged, we have an opening for a key contributor ready to make an immediate impact. As a Lead Project Engineer, you can leverage your education and knowledge with hands-on professional experience working on residential, industrial, and commercial land development projects.

Job Responsibilities

1. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Engineers & technical staff.
2. Lead/manage complex engineering tasks and projects.
3. Demonstrate mastery of fundamental project management skills and use of advanced techniques to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.
4. Review technical work with a long-term perspective to optimize effectiveness.
5. Support corporate mission, goals, strategies, policies, and procedures.
6. Promote effective communication and collaboration internally.
7. Create CAD drawings and details for site, subdivision, and infrastructure plans.
8. Contribute to the preparation of full sets of construction plans.
9. Design site layout, utilities including water, sanitary, storm sewer systems, and roadway design.
10. Prepare erosion and sediment control plans.
11. Perform hydrologic computations for SWM/BMP facilities.
12. Perform site distance analysis, grading, waterline analysis, landscape design, traffic control, and pavement design computations.
13. Complete SWM plans and design BMP facilities.
14. Prepare site work quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and bond estimates.
15. Prepare planning and zoning exhibits and plans.
16. Utilize industry-specific software such as ITE manual, lighting software, HY-8, etc.
17. Perform quality control and plan reviews.
18. Develop feasibility studies, site and layout plans, grading studies, etc.
19. Coordinate with team members as necessary.
20. Manage project deadlines and communicate progress.
21. Assist with deliverables for local, state, and private submissions.
22. Conduct site visits to inspect conditions and progress, and assist with field revisions and as-built documentation.
23. Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

Qualifications

1. B.S. in Civil Engineering or similar field from an accredited university (preferred but not required).
2. EIT certification (preferred); willingness to pursue further certifications such as PE, DEQ SWM Inspector, Plan Reviewer, Responsible Land Disturber, etc.
3. Experience with land development applications is preferred.
4. Management or Project Management experience is strongly preferred.
5. Experience with transportation projects like roadways and highways.
6. Ability to contribute to all phases of engineering design projects using advanced principles.
7. Ability to work independently and justify design decisions.
8. Adaptability to learn and apply new skills effectively.
9. Proactive approach to improving work products and ownership of work.
10. Establish credibility through professional organizations and networking.
11. Ability to manage client and contractor relationships.
12. GIS experience (preferred).
13. Motivated, dedicated, and eager to learn and grow.
14. Familiarity with industry standards and requirements.
15. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D, Hydraflow, Storm and Sanitary Analysis, WaterCAD, and MS Office (preferred).
16. Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
17. Experience in customer service.
18. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
19. Physical ability to lift/move 50+ pounds.
20. Ability to sit for extended periods in an office setting.
21. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
22. Attention to safety, quality, and detail.
23. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
24. Proficiency with company equipment and MS Office.
